Sedation Dentistry

We understand that many people are apprehensive when it comes to dental exams and dental procedures.  At Bird Family Dental, we provide a few different methods of sedation dentistry.

Oral Sedation

One of the most basic forms of sedation dentistry is oral sedation.  In this case, the patient swallows a small pill. The pill relaxes the patient who remains awake while the treatment is performed.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, commonly referred to as laughing gas, is a common method of sedation dentistry that helps patients relax while procedures are performed.  Nitrous oxide, which is inhaled, is commonly used with children who may feel anxious about their exam. Nitrous oxide is considered a minimal strength form of sedation dentistry that relaxes the patient who is awake during the treatment.

IV Conscious Sedation

IV conscious sedation is form of sedation dentistry used for advanced procedures such as wisdom tooth extraction, full mouth extraction and implants.   This is a moderate level of sedation and while the patient remains awake during the treatment, they typically do not remember much of the procedure.

If a patient has severe anxiety about a procedure, regardless of the difficulty, they may also request IV conscious sedation from Bird Family Dental.

Dr. Jayson Bird provides IV conscious sedation dentistry in-house on select days so make sure you request it at the time you set the appointment.
